Being injured means having to sit on the sidelines and watch as your competition continues to progress and make gains. When you are troubled by an injury or another ailment, it can assist to break someone's spirits.

Being a competitive athlete entails keeping active and continually striving to put in even more outstanding and dominant performances. Injuries assure that peak performance will not be achieved, at least not until the individual heals. In bodybuilding, injuries simply time away from the gym, which means you could lose your hard-earned gains. Nothing is more frustrating than working hard and then having all of your hard work undone by a nagging pain or ailment.

This is exactly what happened to top rival Mamdouh "Big Ramy" Elssbiay. The top 10 bodybuilders suffered from a hernia, which is typical in any discipline that demands lifting. It may be a godsend that the bodybuilder's injury occurred during the offseason rather than during the competitive season.

Big Ramy came to Instagram to discuss his operation, rehabilitation, and the doctor who assisted in the cure of his hernia.

"I'd want to express my gratitude to Dr. Grischkan for fixing my hernia two weeks ago. I had a tiny hernia and was reluctant to get surgery because I would have to miss two months of training. Dr. Grischkan was referred to me by a friend for hernia repair. So I called Dr. GRISCHKAN and inquired how long I should take off following the procedure, and he said one week. I was surprised because every doctor I had seen before had told me to take at least two months off after surgery. Last December 29th, I traveled to Ohio. He also corrected my hernia. And he looked after me during my time in Ohio, even paying a visit to my hotel and checking on me. He was an absolute gentleman. I returned to the gym at 70 percent after a five-day training period. After two weeks of surgery, I did legs and squatted three plates on front squats yesterday. I wholeheartedly suggest him for hernia surgery to any athlete."

Big Ramy's strong will and will to progress is assisting him in getting through this difficult moment. With such a rapid comeback, it appears that Big Ramy will not be slowing down anytime soon.
