Early Life
On April 23, 1977, in West Newbury, Massachusetts, John Felix Anthony Cena Jr. was born. His mother, Carol, is of English and French-Canadian ancestry and the daughter of baseball legend Tony Lupien. His father, John Cena, Sr., is of Italian descent. He is one of four brothers—Dan, Matt, Steve, and Sean—and the second child of his parents.
He went to Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, Massachusetts, when he was younger. Later, he was transferred to Cushing Academy, a prestigious boarding school for prep students. He attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, after finishing high school.
He earned NCAA Division III All-American status as a center on the collegiate football team and was the captain and MVP of his high school football squad. Later, he quit the game because he felt that he was far too young for it. In his merchandise, he continues to utilize the jersey number 54.
